This year World Mental Health Day is focusing on suicide prevention. Every single year close to 800,000 people take their own life, not accounting for the many more people who have attempted and survived.
During 2011 and 2015, more than 1,400 UK construction workers took their own lives. That’s the highest suicide rate in any profession according the Office of National Statistics. In 2016, the figure was put at 450.
For people with mental health problems not being able to talk about it can be one of the worst parts of the illness. Whether it’s on site, off site or at home, let’s all start a conversation about mental health, work together to break down stereotypes, improve relationships, aid recovery and take the stigma out of something that affects all of us.
